Two Thai spy dogs that have ventured into Cambodian territory have stepped on landmines and were killed on the spot near Ta Krabey temple.
Maj-Gen. Seak Socheat, commander of the Cambodian forces based in Ta Krabey and Ta Moan Thom temples, said the two Thai sniffer dogs were sent into Cambodian territory to spy on Cambodian military positions, but stepped on landmines and were killed on the spot at 10pm on Friday night, 13th May.
Gen. Seak Socheat said these dogs cost about $US10,000 each and their carcases were taken to a nearby temple and kept there for autopsy and funeral.
The report said that, as a result of this incident, the Thai army had reinforced troops to the border areas, especially the areas around ta Krabey and Ta Moan Thom temples.
During the height of border fighting between Cambodian and Thai troops in April, Cambodian troops claimed that they have captured four Thai spies and a Thai spy dog micro-chipped with a tiny spy camera. And immediately after the clashes in February, one Thai spy dog was trapped by a Cambodian army trap after it and its owner entered Cambodian territory to spy on Cambodian military positions.
